CHAPTER 44
“Villagers, maintain peace. Please calm down. Judo, control the crowd. Please listen to me. We have all gathered here to discuss your concerns. So please, sit in silence and your majesty will listen to you all, one by one,” vexed Sumac addressed the crowd.
“Sumac, Sumac!” Abram called.
“My majesty, where were you? Brady, Quaky, and Mandy, you please carry on and listen to the villagers. My majesty, please come with me, Sumac said, feeling a bit better upon seeing Abram.
“Open your mouth,” Abram declared.
“See that crowd? It seems that the entire village has assembled here,” Sumac spoke, bewildered.
“So, what’s new about that?” Abram asked.
“My majesty, villagers are very hostile. Look into their furious eyes. They want to talk to you directly. They are asking about Shauna and Mamas and wondering about the holy stone. They want to know about Cindy, the other girls, the Salvation Camp and the use of alcohol in Salvation Center.”
“Shut your mouth. Don’t they love their lives? Who is encouraging them against us? I am sure it is carpenter’s chap Sutra!” Abram boiled.
“No, he is not here. I am scared. There could be a big problem for us.”
“No one has courage to remove me. We will castigate them for this offense so that no one can raise his or her voice against us!”
“My Majesty, how many persons shall we punish? The entire village is speaking against us.”
“Death is the great fear. Don’t worry, old priest. Don’t stress your mind, because stress is a vasoconstrictor and you will die if your blood vessels narrow and constrict,” Abram teased him. “Now, old one, come and join the villagers. They are waiting for us.”
They both went in front of the crowd. “My loving brothers, sisters, children and respected senior citizens, why are you all angry with me? Tell me, what are your gripes? Please come forward. I am here to resolve your concerns,” Abram addressed all assembled.
An Old Man came ahead from the gathering. “My majesty, I have two questions. First —”
Abram interrupted, “Please do not call me Majesty. I am not a king of any estate. I am just a chief of this small village and before that I am your servant. So everyone, please call me Master. I like that. Now, please go ahead.”
“First question, Is it not prohibited to drink alcohol in Salvation Center? This is a divine place. Doesn’t this breach our religious principles?” the Old Man asked.
“Next question,” Abram nodded.
“Second is about the holy stone. We worship it. Jury takes oath on this holy stone and they then make decisions. Verdict Stone has become half black and gradually it will be completely black. As per the religious book, this is not a good sign for us. It means sin is increasing and ill deeds are being supported. This is really a very serious concern.”
“Kurtz, my old uncle, did you see me drinking alcohol at Salvation Center?” Abram asked.
“No, I heard from people about you and the priest,” Kurtz replied.
“So did anybody see us drinking alcohol in the divine place?”
No one responded.
